Simple going green facts do not have to cost us money. We can do things that are easy and will save us money and help the environment at the same time. Looking at it this way, it is a win-win situation for everyone and everything involved. Energy Savers For starters, we can adjust our heating and cooling thermostat. In the winter setting the heat two degrees lower than normal is recommended. In the summer months set the cooling system up a few degrees. By doing this we are helping to reduce Co2 emissions and lowering our annual energy bill. There is another way to help save more on the energy bill. However, this tip requires a bit of work on the part of the homeowner. However, each homeowner can save up to twenty five percent on energy costs. Insulating water pipes, the attic to the home, the duct work and the floor will help make the home more energy efficient. Public Transportation Public transportation may seem like a hassle, but did you know that by taking this mode of transportation we are helping to cut back on the amount of gasoline used every year. Each year this mode of transportation cuts back 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline. This is equal to 108 million tanks of gasoline. Recycling Recycling is a great way to go green and help the environment. There are many things we can recycle. For starters, if your household drinks a lot of soda pop you can save the cans and take them into a recycling center. By taking in the cans you are not only helping the environment but are making a few dollars on the side. However, this will most likely not make you millions but could help out with bills around the house. Newspapers are another great thing consumers can take in for recycling. There are ten million tons of newspapers put in landfills each year. Therefore, if everyone pitched in with newspaper recycling the result would be millions of trees saved each year. Cold Wash Washing our laundry in hot water adds to the amount of energy we use. However, if we reduced the amount of laundry washed in hot water the savings would add up over time cutting back on carbon dioxide emissions. Remember with the ever changing technology there are now laundry detergents that wash just as well in cold water as the older detergents did in hot water.
